"Field I"

Woodcut and drawing ink on paper (reclaimed from academic journals)
Field I is part of a series of works titled 'Fields' which has grown out of engagement with landscape and a long practice of note-taking on journeys and walks. Fields have grown out of a corpus of woodcut words which are distilled from my notebooks. Each word is printed from a separate hand-cut block (often using scavenged wood) onto paper from academic journals. Words can be repeated and come in and out of use within the series. The aim is to build up planes of feeling and association, relying on whatever emotional charge the words carry.
