Meet The Designer

Lois Emma Harkin

I am an artist based in Norwich currently studying MA Fine Art at Norwich University of the Arts and previously attended the University of Lincoln whilst studying for my BA in Fine Art.

I direct my practice to engage with various forms intended to challenge specific colour palettes, simplified metaphoric objects, and conversational texts, often having the text closely associated with the title.

My practice functions as an abstracted storyboard, a window into site-specificity, highlighting specific palettes in relation to happenings. A distinctive feature of my practice is the developed style of impasto layering and encouragement of mistakes. Allowing mistakes in my practice results in creating abstracted sections of colour that may create contrast and breaks in the overall composition.

The creation of the virtual exhibition, Stay Connected is an extension and recreation of my most recent project "How We Do It". That project was produced to have my work hang in a 'gallery setting' after my degree show was cancelled during lockdown. It inspired me to recreate a similar project, only this time bring artists together and connect them in a virtual group exhibition. It allows artists from across the world to showcase their artwork whilst staying safe during the global pandemic. I aim to create a 15 artist virtual exhibition once every few months that will encourage, inspire and engage artists to still produce work and have a platform even in lockdown.
